What we can learn from our Ancestors
"It's often seen as a cultural taboo to be a Magical One, yet there's actually a magic and power and truth in healing ourselves. Our deep sensitivity, our magic, our capacity to heal and be medicine is a gift."
~ Nicole Barton
Since my recent shamanic healing I've been consciously working with my Ancestors a little bit more, as they had come to the healing with a lot of anger about not feeling "enough" - which makes a lot of sense, given they were Witches, likely burned at the stake.
So it was a glorious surprise to me when my Mum brought me a book to read, for our holiday, that I'd been asking for, about our family's heritage. This book was called "The Peculiar People", which, as it turns out, my family were part of the founders.
As I dived into the book, I discovered that this particular (or you could say "Peculiar") people were energetic healers. Specifically, they came under a lot of fire for going against the mainstream medical system due to their belief that healing was energetic.
I had tingles as I read this, because, whilst I deeply appreciate modern science and the medical system for emergency situations, I do have a deep inbuilt knowing that energetic medicine is what truly heals, long term. That sickness is, more deeply, soul sickness.
And, even deeper, I see that the Remedies of the Wild (my unique philosophy that is based on the homeopathic lineage) was essentially what my ancestors were dosing, all those years ago. That gives me shivers, as I'm more deeply discovering my Unique Medicine all the time - and to know, evidentially, that this healing is inbuilt into my DNA is pretty magical.
The deepest truth is that we all have the capacity to heal ourselves, if we learn to harness the power of the energetic medicine that is within us. Witches, especially, have this unique gift. And yet, often, they shame or deny it, due to fear of being seen as weird, or odd - or 'peculiar.'
So though the "Peculiar People" weren't actually named for being 'peculiar" as we know it to mean now, they couldn't actually have been more aptly named for how our modern culture sees this type of energetic healing. It's often a cultural' taboo,' to be a Magical One. Something my women often struggle with feeling that their magic is very much not approved of.
And so, the Witch has always been seen as weird, peculiar - and a bit of an outcast. And I'm here to help women see that that's okay - and that actually there's a magic and power and truth in us taking responsibility to heal ourselves That our deep sensitivity, our magic, our capacity to heal and be medicine is a GIFT.
I help women come to know that their feeling 'peculiar' in their magical gifts is perfect. And to know that this was always my heritage - and that somehow I've ended up being here continuing their work - in a world where it isn't always welcome - is magical.
I'll be leading medicinal ones (who may fear being seen as peculiar or going against the grain) more deeply into their own healing gifts in Invoke Your Wild Apothecary in November. If you'd like to join us, more will be revealed soon, but for now, link is in the comments to register interest so you're the first to hear.
Photos are pages from the book, which describe what I've shared here, along with my recent ritual.
Happy Full Moon, Magical Ones ✨🌕✨
